Apple Introduces “HomePod”, Smart Controlled Voice Speaker

Competing with Amazon’s Echo and Google Home, HomePod utilizes Siri and “will place more emphasis on music.”

Apple has unveiled its latest hardware product, HomePod, a smart controlled voice speaker at WWDC, (World Wide Developer Conference) held on June 5, 2017, in San Jose, California, as reported by

HomePod, is a 7 inch wireless speaker, that has Siri, Apple’s virtual assistant built in. “Apple is aiming to differentiate the device from Amazon Echo and Google Home by putting more of an emphasis on music,” added

Although this device may seem small, do not underestimate how the volume can adjust. With a 4 inch woofer and 7 tweeter sound system, this tiny device can blast music across a room.

“The speaker will also be able to offer up voice requests for the sorts of things that Amazon’s and Google’s smart speakers excel at — such as news, weather, traffic and podcasts, as well as unit conversion and setting reminders and alarms,” reported

The HomePod will awaken at the phrase, “Hey Siri”, the same service that is used on Apple iPhones.

“The speaker’s not coming until the end of the year, and it’ll cost $350 when it arrives. Apple’s after a higher – end customer than your average Echo owner, and hoping great sound wins them over,” explained

Apple stated the HomePod will be priced at $349, and will be available in the U.S. in December in two colors –  White and Space Gray.
