“The staff’s first reaction was shock followed by everyone jumping up and down screaming!” stated Libby Moore, Principal of La Entrada High School, PYLUSD’s independent study high school.

Upon hearing the news that La Entrada High School had received an honor of being recognized nationally by receiving a bronze medal in being one of the top schools in America by US News education. The high school lets students to select their independent classes. Attending students have the option to take textbook base courses or online courses, as well as personalizing education via the hybrid model.

La Entrada High School, one of the six high schools to the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD), allows students to work and study off school campus. This program lets students do extracurricular activities like mission trips, acting, modeling, or helping third world countries.

“I have to admit that I was skeptical about allowing my daughter Sophie to veer away from the traditional school model.  In fact, I asked her every month for her first year ‘Are you sure you don’t want to go to the regular high school?’  This is by far been the best opportunity that has come her way!  It has allowed Sophie to be able to do what she loves which is taking 3-week mission trips to Uganda, Africa.  It is also allowing her to accelerate her academics with graduating a year early WITH college credits.  This is important to my daughter because she desires to work full-time in Africa as soon as possible.” says mother of Sophie Matz, student of La Entrada High School.
