Five teens were killed in a fiery car crash on the I-5 freeway near the 133 toll road 2 am Saturday morning on a ride home from Knott’s Scary Farm, according to CNN.
Driving the car was a 16-year-old from Laguna Niguel who is in a coma. Passengers included two girls and three boys in a BMW sedan designed to seat 5 passengers, added CNN.
Two of the boy’s, ages 14 and 15, and were from Mission Viejo. The third, a 14 year old, was from San Juan Capistrano, according to the LA Times.
“The driver was southbound on the I-5 near the 133 toll road at about 2 a.m. when the BMW sedan veered right, went off the freeway and up an embankment,” said CHP spokesman Officer Florentino Olivera, reported The LA Times.
Parents and players learned Saturday morning from their coach that their teammates Alex Sotelo, Brandon Moreno, and Matthew Melo were the people killed hours earlier in the deadly crash. Neither the two females nor the 15 year old were wearing seatbelts, according to the CHP.
“It does not appear that the driver had a driver’s license,” stated CHP spokesman Florentino Olivera. He also added that the BMW only had seating for five people, according to the OC Register.
Teammates of the three out of five passengers learned about their friend’s death after a soccer game huddled with parents and players on the side lines. The week prior the team celebrated a victory at a Buffalo Wild Wings, at a shopping center in Mission Viejo, reported C
Brandon Moreno was the newest member of the team. “I wish I had gotten more time to get to know him” said, Nick, a San Clemente high school freshman, added the LA Times.
