Teacher Profile: Mr. Kish

Teaching Life Lessons and Academics

“My favorite part of teaching at Bernardo is being a part of such a great community and awesome students and faculty. In general, I love getting to know my students and feel that they have left my classroom having learned life lessons as well as academics,” stated BYMS language arts teacher, yearbook and ASB advisor, Mr. Keith Kish.

Mr. Kish has been teaching at Bernardo for 19 years. He graduated from El Dorado High School and Cal State Fullerton. He earned his B.A. in English/ Comparative Literature, a Minor in Theatre, and a Master’s degree in Educational Counseling.

“The most challenging aspect of my job is managing my time. I am always thinking of the next event and preparing to execute it whether it is a yearbook deadline, school play, spirit rally, dance, or grading essays,” reported Mr. Kish.

Mr. Kish admires many literature figures such as Dr. Seuss and as for drama he admires Samuel Beckett, Anton Chekhov, Henrik Ibsen, William Carlos Williams, and Edmond Rostand. Romantic poets are always his favorite such as William Blake, William Wordsworth, and Samuel Taylor Coleridge. He has always respected the classic novelists  Emily Jane Bronte, and Mark Twain.

Kish has student taught at Valencia High School and has also taught one year at Centennial High School in Corona. He has taught advanced drama, study skills, yearbook, computers, and leadership. He is now the ASB and Yearbook adviser and the 7th grade language arts teacher and advanced drama teacher.

Mr. Kish became a teacher only after considering other majors in college.  He states, “NO! I wanted to be an actor and was set to go to NYU but financially that wasn’t going to happen, so I went to the next choice of majoring in business at Cal State Fullerton. I studied business for three years and minored in theatre.”

“After realizing the long shot of paying the bills with theatre, I decided to switch to a minor in theatre and major in English. That’s my story and I’m sticking with it, ”insists Kish.

In his free time Mr. Kish enjoys the time with his family, especially when they do family outings, riding, relaxing, and traveling when possible.
