BYMS is hosting after school volleyball team practices coached by Mrs. Torres and Profesora Viasenor on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:20 to 4:25 on the blacktop.

The middle school volleyball tournament is scheduled to take place on Friday, October 15 from 2PM-7PM. Our school will be competing against all the other middle schools in our district.

“The decision to have intramural sports was made by the middle school principals in an effort to bring more after school activities this year that promotes school spirit and fun. Volleyball was one of the sports offered, as well as basketball, track and field, and cross country. These after school sports are essential in our theme this year of Belong at BeYorba,” Profesor Villasenor , stated in an interview with the Matador Messenger.

BYMS team members learn and practice volleyball techniques and skills such as setting, passing, and serving which are all essential volleyball skills.

BYMS eighth grader, Maddie Yi who is a member of the BYMS volleyball team stated, “Some skills I feel that I have really developed are having more control with the ball and knowing which direction it will land when someone serves it to me.”

Maddie also really enjoys playing volleyball with her friends. She stated. “What I have enjoyed most was playing with my friends on a team and playing mini volleyball games with them.”

Sarah Abraham, another member of the volleyball team stated,” I‌ ‌enjoyed‌ ‌being‌ ‌able‌ ‌to‌ ‌play‌ ‌with‌ ‌my‌ ‌friends‌ ‌in‌ ‌a‌ ‌team.‌”

Sarah stated that one skill she has really gotten better at is passing.

Profesora Villasenor mentioned that moving from blacktop practice to indoor gym competition will create some challenges. “I think that our biggest challenge will be having to go from practicing outside on the blacktop to having the competition indoors.  The change in environment might take a little getting used to, but it is definitely something we can overcome.”

Profesora Villasenor also added, “My biggest goal this volleyball season is for our students to have fun while making new friends and connecting with old ones too.”

More information about attending and supporting BYMS players at the PYLUSD Middle School Volleyball Tournament will be posted on the BYMS website.
