Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson is an Icelandic Strongman who has won his first the World’s Strongest Man competition. In previous competitions, Björnsson has placed in 2nd and 3rd. During this year Björnsson has won the Arnold Strongman Classic and Europe’s Strongest Man, WSM.com.
In the WSM competition, Björnsson won with 51.5 points, 6.5 points above second place. Poland’s Mateusz Kieliszkowski won second place with 45 points. American, Brian Shaw won third place with 45 points. Björnsson is the first European to win the WSM, Arnold Classic, and Europe’s Strongest Man in the same year, washingtonpost.com
Björnsson won his qualifying heat round and dominated the Grand Finals. In his qualifying heat he won with a overhead press. In the Grand Final, Björnsson won the loading race to secure first place, barbend.com.
In the WSM competition, each athlete compete in 4 events. The 4 events were the loading press, circus barbell, car deadlift, and a truck pull, newyorktimes.com
