Esperanza Varsity Basketball Rebounds to Defend CIF Title

Esperanza Varsity basketball is coming back this season defending their CIF Division II state championship, even though they have  lost 10 key varsity players

One returning player, Brenden Harrick, is averaging the most points and the most rebounds, with 21.9 points per game and 8.8 rebounds per game, for Esperanza. They are looking to defend their state title and achieve another state title in the process.

To kickoff the season, Esperanza competed in the Crean Lutheran tournament on December Second . Their first game was against San Dieguito Academy. Esperanza won 74-64 with Harrick ending the game with 38 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 assists.       

Esperanza’s second game went well as the Aztecs defeating San Juan Hills High School   with the final score being 64-52. With their best player being B. Harrick with 30 points,11 rebounds, and 2 assists. .

In their third game, Esperanza faced La Mirada High School and won 72-69, with Brenden Harrick ending the game with 36 points, 15 rebounds, and 3 steals.

Sonora High School lost to Esperanza with the final score of 70-56. The Aztecs player with most points was J. Almazan ending the game with 25 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals.

Esperanza’s fifth game was a close one against Crean Lutheran High School but Esperanza won in the end with the score of 56-53 and Harrick almost getting a double double with 20 points and 9 rebounds.

In the end, Esperanza won the Crean Lutheran Tournament by going undefeated, 5-0.

The sixth game went good, Esperanza defeated Crean Lutheran High School again with the final score being 61-54 with B. Harrick ending the game with the most points.  

Esperanza being down in the first quarter with the score being 20-9 esperanza still pulled through and won 66-62 against El Toro High School.  

Esperanza finally got their first lose to Woodbridge High School, it was a close game with the score being 69-66 on December 12.

San Clemente gave Esperanza their second lose with the final score being 59-42. They are on a two lose streak.

Finally Esperanza broke their losing streak and won against Valencia High School with the final score being 62-52, and with B. Harrick getting a double-double scoring 22 points and 10- rebounds.

Their 11th game was really close against Yorba Linda High School. They went to overtime and the final score was 72-70.

Chino High School lost to Esperanza by 27 points with B. Harrick scoring 22 of those points and 7 rebounds.

Their 13th Esperanza went against Diamond Ranch High School. Esperanza lost 71-57. Diamond ranch hasn’t uploaded the stats.

For their 14th game Esperanza went against Great Oak High School. Esperanza lost 63-60. Great Oak doesnt have the stats up yet.

For their 15th game Esperanza went against Auburn High School. Esperanza lost 74-65. Auburn hasn’t entered the states yet.     

For their 16th game Esperanza went against Vista Murrieta High School. Esperanza lost 63-46. Vista Murrieta hasn’t posted their stats yet.

For their 17th game Esperanza went against Workmen High School. Esperanza won with the score being 84-46. Julian Almazan finished the game with 22 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 assists.

For their 18th game Esperanza went against El Dorado High School. Esperanza won with the final score being 58-54. Brenden Harrick finished the game with 21 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists.
