A New Baseball Varsity Coach at Esperanza
“So far this season the accomplishments have been all about committing themselves to be excellent We have been telling them to focus on the process of getting better on a daily basis instead of worrying about the result and they have done a good job of that so far,” stated Coach Kyle Muhlsteff, Esperanza High School’s new varsity men’s baseball coach in an interview with the Matador Messenger.
“ Our goal is to be exceptional at the basics and to be at our best when our best is needed. Finally, there will always be high expectations for the players and I want them to work to meet those expectations,” added Muhlsteff, an Esperanza alumni who was the National Classic MVP in 2005 and also teaches two weight lifting classes and a class called gear up.
That level of excellence is expected on the field, in the classroom, and in the community, added Coach Muhlsteff.
When asked what his coaching philosophy is, Coach Kyle Muhlsteff responded, “First, I believe in developing the whole person (player, student, and young man). Baseball is a short window of time in their life and I want to be able to make a positive impact in all areas of their life. Second, there is a strong commitment to fundamentals on the field.
Riley Loudon, a junior at Esperanza and a first baseman for the men’s baseball varsity team said, “Coach Mully is a great coach and has a good vision to bring the program back to what it once was and he really cares about each individual player.”
Another junior, Cole ‘CJ’ Larsen a pitcher and outfielder remarked, “It’s nice to start a new legacy of Esperanza baseball with a new coach I already trust.”
So far the team has had five games since the end of September. The first game was on September 21st against Tustin high school, September 28th against Woodbridge high school, October 3rd against Marina high school, October 7th against La Habra, October 11th against Chino Hills high school, October 24 against La Habra.
