YLHS Track and Field Sets New School Records
“There are a great many challenges that present themselves over the course of a track season. In addition to our 3 league meets, we have 4 nonleague meets and 5 Invitationals, stated Jesse Gomez, the Yorba Linda High School Track and Field Coach.
Yorba Linda High School’s Track team had many accomplishments this season. They were League Champions for Girls Varsity, Runners up Boys Varsity, 3rd Place Boys Junior Varsity, 3rd Place Girls Junior Varsity, 3rd Place Boys Frosh-Soph, 3rd Place Girls Frosh-Soph.
Coach Gomez stated, “Our goals for our team is to keep the athletes healthy, adhering to a training schedule that allows athletes to peak at the end of the season, and finding the right combination of athletes for relays to allow for speed and cohesion.”
A number of students set new school records including the following: Nicole Martinez 100m and 200m Dash, Lauren O’banion 400m Dash, Allison Provenzano, Michelle Quinn, Lauren O’banion and Nicole Martinez 400m Relay, Madi Burford Shot Put, Peyton Wagner Discus, and Grant Hughes Triple Jump.
“The Yorba Linda Track and Field Team has 160 competing athletes, many of whom compete in multiple events. This year, the YLHS Track and Field Team set nearly 300 personal records. This is a testament to the work ethic, desire, and passion shown by our athletes,” stated Coach Gomez.
