The Vegas Golden Knights officially completed the expansion transaction on Wednesday, March 2. They will be the 31 NHL team in the 2017-2018 season. The Golden Knights are Las Vegas’ first major professional sports franchise, according to msn.com.

“Today we reached another significant milestone in our team’s history – the Vegas Golden Knights are officially a National Hockey League franchise,” Golden Knights Chairman and CEO Bill Foley said in a statement released by the team. “It is an incredibly exciting day for our organization and we would not be here without the continued support from our fans,” reported upi.com.

The expansion draft will be held on June 21. General Manager George McPhee now can officially have trade discussions and sign players to contracts. The Golden Knights are slotted in between second and third to last place in the waiver priority order from March 2 until Oct 31, 2017, reported usatoday.com.
