Yorba Linda High School’s Women’s Soccer team has 2 wins, 5 losses and 1 tie, so far this season.
“We have beaten local rival El Dorado HS and Del Norte HS from San Diego. Most of our losses have come against highly ranked programs Santa Margarita Catholic HS (#1 at the time), Los Alamitos HS (currently #1), San Clemente HS, San Juan Hills HS and Capo Valley HS,” stated Scott Anderson, YLHS head women’s soccer coach.
”This season is a different experience than in previous years as we are rebuilding a program that saw 9 starters graduate from last years CIF Finalist and State Regional team, Anderson stated. We are very young and inexperienced but are growing closer and stronger with every practice and competition.”
One of the team’s main goals is to continue the tradition of qualifying for CIF Playoffs. They have moved up to Division 1, the most challenging of divisions, which in itself serves as a tough task, according to Anderson.
The team returns junior goalkeeper, Emma Deane. Last season Emma was recognized as the North Hills Defensive Player of the Year, CIF Division 3 first team and OC Varsity first team all county. She faces a tough task this year but is definitely up for the challenge, according to Anderson.
“My goal for the team is to develop camaraderie and a sense of team as family so that they learn to play together instead of individually, Anderson stated. I want all players to have a selfless attitude and give to their teammates and coaches instead of always asking what they can get from the team. Once they learn to play for each other, to believe and trust in one another, then true success will come to this program.”
