“Our senior catcher, MacKenzie Graham, is one of the best catchers in the county and a top hitter,” stated Ed Tunstall, Esperanza High School’s Varsity Women’s Softball Coach.

As being Century League Champions and Sunset League Champions in 2014, the pressure on this years team to do as well as the 2014 team this season.

The team started training in September with Crossfit twice a week and now are practicing five times a week working on all softball skills, according to Esperanza Softball Coach Ed Tunstall.

With returning pitcher, Ciara Stapp, Yorba Linda High School will be their greatest challenge this year. “Yorba Linda will be our toughest team this year.  They have a very good pitcher returning,” stated Coach Ed Tunstall.

Coach Tunstall stresses developmental skills in preparing his team. “We stress teamwork, effort, and attitude while helping the players develop their skills through drills and other practice.  All these in the hope that the players performed at the highest level they can,” stated Coach Tunstall.

The team has much talent returning and some new talent coming in. “I am encouraged by the attitude and effort that the girls have displayed.  We have a solid core of returning players and some very talented freshmen players,” stated Coach Tunstall.

Play began shortly with scrimmages on Monday, January 18th, against Torrance and La Mirada High School. They have scrimmages every Thursday preparation for the regular season that starts on February 28th, and a 5- game tournament at Peralta Park on President’s Day Weekend.
