American Pharoah, race horse rode by Victor Espinoza, capped off his triple crown run as he raced to victory at the Belmont Stakes, reported nytimes.com.

American Pharoah is now part of an elite group of 11 horses that have won the Preakness, Kentucky Derby, and Belmont Stakes, according to latimes.com. The other horses that have won this title are Sir Barton, Gallant Fox, Omaha, War Admiral, Whirlaway, Count Fleet, Assault, Citation, Secretariat, Seattle Slew, and Affirmed, reported horseracingnation.com.

Thirteen horses have recently won the first two legs, the  Preakness and the Kentucky Derby, but they all 13 fell short on the one and a half mile track of the Belmont Stakes, reported sbnation.com.

The last horse to win this prestigious accomplishment was in 1978 when the horse, Affirmed, won, stated sbnation.com and horseracingnation.com.

The owner of American Pharoah plans to follow up this feature by racing again later this year, but which race is yet to be determined, stated espn.go.com.
