Dodger’s ace pitcher Clayton Kershaw and Indian’s ace Corey Kluber won the Cy Young Award, reported cnn.com.

“It’s just a huge honor,” Kershaw said. “I think, to be associated with the guys that won the Cy Young Award, and really getting to have my name put up with some of those guys, is unbelievable. There are so many people to thank. Having some runs every time out there like my teammates were able to do this year is a huge reason why I get to be here today,” reported cnn.com.

“I’m definitely surprised. It’s just a credit to all the hard work … I’ve put in through the past,” Corey Kluber said. “There are a lot of people who have helped me along the way. So a lot of things have to come together at the right time,” reported cnn.com.

The Cy Young Award is an award that is given to the best pitcher in each league. This year, the National League Cy Young Award was given to Clayton Kershaw, and the American League Cy Young Award was given to Corey Kluber.

The Cy Young Award is determined by members of the Baseball Writers Association of America. One member of this association represents each team, for a total of 30 members. Each member votes for a first, second, third, fourth, and fifth place pitcher. According to cbssports.com, Corey Kluber earned 17 of the 30 first place votes and had a total of 169 points. According to sports.yahoo.com, Clayton Kershaw earned 30 out of the 30 first place votes and had a total of 210 points.

This year, Kershaw had a win to loss record of 21-3, with a 1.77 ERA, or earned run average. He struck out 239 and had a .86 WHIP, or walks plus hits per innings pitched. Corey Kluber had a win to loss record of 18-9, with a 2.44 ERA. He struck out 269 and had a 1.09 WHIP.
