A project idea created 26 years ago is finally coming to life, as the new Yorba Linda Town Center real construction is going to begin at the end of 2017, and is expected to be complete as early as summer 2018, with construction taking 12 to 18 months, according to ocregister.com.

Yorba Linda intends to expand their town center to create an area where local residents and visitors can shop and dine, reports ci.yorba-linda.ca.us.

Anticipated new public improvements and facilities include a relocated and expanded public library, a community commons and plaza, public parking, enhanced pedestrian linkages and a new streetscape along Imperial Highway, Yorba Linda Boulevard, Lakeview Avenue and Main Street, adds ci.yorba-linda.ca.us.

Restaurants going into the center were announced, including Blaze Pizza, The Habit, Cafe Rio: Mexican Grill, Seasalt Fish Grill, the Creamistry and Jersey Mike’s Subs, reported the ocregister. com.

According to the Zelman Company, the developer working with the city of  Yorba Linda, the center  is “a prime example of the type of new retail desired by communities. “

“The project will be anchored by a high end grocer and a reserved seating theatre providing both daytime and nighttime users for the site as well as high end restaurants and shops surrounding a 1 acre “town center” park,” the Zelman Company states on their website. “  When completed, Yorba Linda Town Center will represent an entertainment/retail/and dining location to rival any in Orange County.”

The cost of the center isn’t cheap, however.  Just remodeling Main Street would cost about $850,000, added the ocregister.com.

Yorba Linda City Manager Mark Pulone stated, “The Town Center – bounded by Imperial Highway, Yorba Linda Boulevard, Lakeview Avenue, Main Street and Lemon Drive – is expected to cost the city about $37.3 million, including property acquisition costs, street improvements and a parking structure, ” reported the ocregister.com

But many believe it will pay off.   Longtime citizen Dale Madsen, who has a business on the nearby historic Main Street, in an interview with the OC Register, stated that he believes  the center will improve the area.

“I’m very excited that it’s finally happening,” Madsen said. “It will increase the business on Main Street. I think it’s a win, win for everybody.”
