Mask Mandate Lifts on March 12 in All Schools in California

Masks will no longer be required in California schools starting March 12th regardless of vaccination status.

According to ABC NewsThe new guidance will make face coverings strongly recommended, rather than a requirement at most indoor places in California starting Tuesday and at schools on March 12.” However, those who are in healthcare facilities or public settings where one may be vulnerable, may be required to continue to wear a mask.

School campuses will no longer mandate indoor masks in the state of California, but, Times of San Diego states, “Individual school districts or counties, however, will have the option of maintaining local requirements if they deem them necessary.” The Times of San Diego also states, “Despite California’s lifting of indoor mask-wearing requirements, Los Angeles County continues to require face coverings in most indoor settings. However, the county is allowing vaccinated people to remove their masks in indoor locations where all patrons are checked for either a COVID vaccination or a recent negative test.”

NYC Times states the Center for Disease Control and Prevention had been denounced back in 2021 when they tried to lift the mask mandate, as many thought it was too soon. “This time, however, many public health experts support the easing of mask guidelines.”

The policies regarding the virus are continuously adjusting as new data is obtained. ABC News states, “The new CDC guidelines are based on measures focused more on what’s happening at hospitals than on test results.”
