Eleven residents have been displaced after a fire erupted on the second floor of an apartment complex in Anaheim on January 18, according to ocregister.com.

The fire was reported at 5:17 p.m at the Wateridge Apartments on the 2200 block of East Ball Road, and was put out by firefighters who arrived on the scene minutes later.

At least two of the units on the top were ‘heavily impacted,’ but firefighters from Anaheim and Garden Grove were able to quell the flames in a short time, stated the ocregister.

Three units on the top floor and two on the bottom were damaged, fire officials said, but no injuries were reported.

Shortly after the fire was extinguished, investigators came to determine what caused the fire. The cause has still not yet been verified.

Around 100,000 apartment structure fires happen each year, according to nfpa.org. Travel.com created a list of ways to prevent an apartment fire. Keeping a fire extinguisher in every room or close by, keeping a stove or oven top clean, and checking for faulty wiring are some of the ways to prevent one.
