Singer Selena Gomez’s fans have been wondering why Selena was not actively performing during the summer of 2017. Gomez revealed that she was recovering from a kidney transplant, on September 14. Her best friend, Francia Raisa, donated one of her kidneys to Gomez, according to E News.
Gomez posted a picture on Instagram of Raisa and her holding hands across their hospital beds. Gomez was diagnosed with Lupus in 2012. Lupus is a skin disease marked by inflammation of the skin when the immune system attacks its own tissue.
Up to 60 percent of people with Lupus develop kidney disease at some point in life. “So, I found out I needed to get a kidney transplant due to my Lupus and was recovering. It was what I needed to do for my overall health,” The Ellen Show.
Mandy Teefey, Selena’s mother, admitted she felt helpless and scared while her daughter underwent surgery. Teefey described the picture she saw of Gomez and Raisa on Instagram as,“One of the most breathtaking images that will live with me forever,” according to E-News.
