11 people were killed in a train car explosion is St. Petersburg, Russia by a suicide bomber explosive device on Monday, April 3rd, 2017 as reported by Google News.

Russia’s Anti-Terrorism Committee has stated, “Preliminary information suggests that at least nine people were killed and at least 20 others were injured, some seriously.” Later, 2 injured died at the scene, according to abcnews.go.com.

Local police have since confirmed that the blast was caused by a suicide bomber, while the train passed through a tunnel in between stations. No terrorist group has claimed responsibility as of now, according to cnn.com.

Russian authorities suggested there may have been two blasts, due to the appearance of the wreckage. “So far, we say it was an unidentified explosive device as investigators and the Federal Security Service’s bomb specialists are to establish the exact cause of this explosion,” stated KBG Agent, Andrei Przhezdomsky, reported by Google News.

All surrounding metro stations have been closed and will stay that way until further notice, according to cnn.com.
