A Day Ruline Steininger Waited For 103 Years

Ruline Steininger is an elderly woman from Iowa who waited 103 years to see a female president. She was born at a time when females weren’t even allowed to vote, so it was very exciting for her to see a woman running to be the president of the United States of America.

Steininger was only seven years old when, in August of 1920, the 19th Amendment was signed, making it legal for women to vote. “I couldn’t imagine a woman. I mean, it’s always been a man and I just assumed it might always be,” she said. (huffingtonpost.com)

Ruline Steininger has voted in every election since 1936. She told CNN that this November, her vote would be going to the Democrat, Hillary Clinton.

When the extremely controversial election was over, Steininger was very disappointed when Clinton lost to Donald Trump on November 7th. She said, “I’m shocked. I don’t know what has gotten into people.” But she is not giving up hope just yet.

“I’ve got a big job ahead of me … I’ve got to live!” she told CNN. “After that, OK, I can die if I want to, but I’m going to live until she’s elected.”
