Just one week after Canyon Fire 1 was extinguished, Canyon Fire 2 erupted in Coal Canyon. Canyon 2 consumed 24 structures, and caused the evacuation of thousands of residents.

Anaheim Fire officials stated that the latest fire began in Coal Canyon, near the 91 freeway. They are uncertain what was the cause of the fire, according to ocregister.

Fortunately, no deaths occurred due to this fire, but a firefighter sustained non-life threatening injuries, noted ktla.

Thousands were told to evacuate their homes, due to smoke and ash possibly entering, according to ktla. Evacuated residents were redirected to the Downtown Anaheim Community Center, or the Downtown Anaheim Youth Center, according to 10news. “We’ve got winds out here gusting up to 45 mph, and that’s what driving this fire. It’s been an extreme rate of spread,” noted Sgt. Daron Wyatt, in an interview with ktla.

“I looked up and saw the smoke and thought, ‘Oh, no, not again,’ ” said Matt Singer, a city recreation leader who grew up in Anaheim Hills and said the fire Monday was as close as he’s been to flames in the dozens of fires he’s lived through, reported ocregister.

With more than 24 structures burnt down, and 6,000 acres burnt, Anaheim Hills´ biggest brush fire in the last decade has been fully contained on October 12, 2017, stated ocregister.
