A man in his 60’s was shot in his chest near a lakebed in Yorba Linda, on Monday, October 3.

The incident took place around 8 a.m. near Mariposa and Lakeview Avenues An investigation is underway according to abc7.com

The suspect was identified as 73- year-old Jack Horn Jr., a Yorba Linda resident, who was walking his dogs with his wife, according to losangeles.cbslocal.com.

“Horn was booked for assault with a deadly weapon,” stated Lt. Mark Stichter, according to patch.com.

A handgun was recovered at the scene, according to abc7.com.

David Hernandez, who lives nearby, ran to the hiking trail behind his house where all the commotion was happening and saw deputies confronting the suspect, according to losangeles.cbslocal.com.

“I hear all of these cops,” Hernandez said. “They were yelling ‘Put down the gun, put down the gun!’ And the guy complied with them and he just put down the gun.”

“It was all over a dog because he wasn’t on a leash,” Hernandez stated in an interview with the Matador Messenger. “Both the dogs bit the guy who got shot in the chest.”

“We’re still trying to piece together exactly what may have happened here in the lake bed. We’re not sure, and hopefully we’ll be able to get some more facts and some answers as the investigation goes on,” said OCSD Lt. Mark Stichter.

The victim, also a Yorba Linda resident, was airlifted by Mercy Air to Orange County Global Medical Center trauma center, in Santa Ana, according to patch.com.

“The victim was alive and speaking when he was transported,” Stichter said. “A handgun was recovered at the scene, unknown caliber or make.”
