Martial Arts International: “Be Confident in Yourself”

Getting a black belt is not an easy task. Most black belts train for years before attempting to get their black belt. There are many types of martial arts but one commonly known is karate. However, before getting a black belt, karate students need to have a basic knowledge of what karate is. Many people are familiar with the name of this style of martial arts, but many don’t know what karate truly is. Karate, or “open hand” in Japanese, is a martial art that teaches Kumite (hand-to-hand combat) and kata (a series of movements that are used to “fight”). This form of martial arts originated in Okinawa, Japan in the 17th century.

MAI (Martial Arts International) is a dojo (training area) that is located at 1261 N Lakeview Ave, Anaheim, CA 92807. With experienced teachers, a friendly environment, and a solid system of learning requirements, this dojo is perfect for any age group.

COVID-19 has made a very big impact in all businesses, but MAI’s owner, Rick Manos, has worked hard to make sure that this business thrived through even the worst of COVID. “It was hard to make it through COVID, we did zoom classes, and for some time we had to train outside of the dojo,” he says. Sensi (teacher) Brendon Butler also said, “COVID changed our training methods because we had to do remote teaching on Zoom and I am happy that we are back to physical form. I am also happy that we were able to adapt back to what was happening before, some schools did not get back to normal, a few even had to shut down after the pandemic.”

“Karate is a wonderful class and very fun to take part in…,” stated a student who attends MAI. They also said, “… it teaches me many skills and I make many friends in the process.”  Karate is a growing sport that is fun and interesting to learn. It is worth a try!
