Do you ever need more pocket space or worry about your money being stolen? “Zip It Socks”, a Kickstarter product looking to raise 55,000 dollars by October 9, has created a fashionable way to carry your loose change, credit cards, or other items in a secret pocket.
Investors who have pledged $50 or more will receive, according to the Kickstarter website, “A pair of Zip It Socks. Also, comes with a Instagram shout out on brand’s page and and personal page ranging over 90K+ followers.”
Zip It Socks, which are made out of 81% cotton, 17% polyamide, 2% elastane, are stored in recycled pill bottles to save the environment, and the socks come in four colors. Flavor flav colorway, slime green, red, and pink.
This product was designed by Edison Konan who was inspired to work in the fashion industry after he visited New York during fashion week. He came up with this idea from a song he heard called MAGNOLIA. In the lyrics, it said, “In New York I Milly Rock, Hide it in my sock.” This gave Edison the idea of a sock, with a zipper and a pocket to hold things, stated Edison in an interview with the Matador Messenger.
According to his kickstarter website, when he shared his idea, his college responded with, “That is the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard of, it’s not possible.”
Not taking no for an answer he said to himself, “Alright, I’ll show him its possible!”
When he turned 21, Edison traveled to New York to find a designer to help make a sample of his dream sock. He found a designer named Caesar, the sample maker, and they made their first prototype. He put together a pop up, and created a website to kickstart his product.
In an interview with Edison Konan, his advice to youth was, “Don’t take NO for an answer, especially from the voices that come from inside your head. The constant doubt is just the fears and traumas from failing. Failing is not bad just try harder and before I forget! The power of collaboration.”
