Cancer Survivor Finds a Three Legged Companion

“I want a dog with three legs,” stated Quinn Scharn, 12 year old Osteosarcoma cancer patient, after he awoke from surgery according to

Quinn and his mother, Teresa Howell, had been looking for a dog with three legs for two years and on March 2, she found a video of a sweet pit-bull mix named Logan on facebook, according to

Howell rushed to go pick Quinn up from school, drove to Sacramento to meet the puppy, Logan, and waited at the front desk as long as they had to to be able to meet Logan. The shelter changed their mind and and they adopted him immediately, stated.

When Quinn was 10 years old, he was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, a type of cancer that starts in the bones. This type of cancer is most commonly found in children and young adults and grows where the bones are growing quickly. Where it is found a lot of the time is around the knee area, according to

This meant that the 12 year old boy from Napa, California had to get his right hip and leg amputated, SFGate reported.

Quinn is a two time cancer patient. When he was a baby he also had cancer. The second time around at age 10, he was diagnosed, he was treated with a special treatment and found out that he was and still is cancer free.

“It’s been a time of uncertainty,” Howell told SFGate. “Seeing him with Logan, I can just tell all the other stuff is melting away.”
