Knocki Makes Every Surface a “Smart-Surface”

Instead of getting up all the time fumbling to grab the remote or walking across the room to turn on the light switch, inventors Jake Boshernitzan and Ohad Nezer have created Knocki, a small device that can make any surface in your home a “smart-surface.”

“Knocki is a smart-device that gives you control of your favorite functions through the surfaces around you,” Jake and Ohad wrote on their page on

Knocki can take any ordinary surfaces such as walls, furniture, tables, and doors, into a remote control. All you have to do is tap a few times to do things such as find your lost phone or turn lights on/off. “Knocki works with a growing variety of connected devices,” said the creators.

In an interview with the Matador Messenger, the Knocki Foundation said that Jake and Ohad came up with the idea of Knocki at a family get-together. As they were watching one of their small children stack boxes on top of each other to reach a light switch to turn it off, they both turned to each other with an idea.

“Why not turn walls and other common surfaces into control interfaces?”  This simple question is what sent Jake and Ohad on their path to developing Knocki.

Knocki is not just any smart-device; it transforms the regular world around device owners, into a control interface. “Knocki is the only technology that can bring your table to life, turn a wall into a powerful remote, or give you the convenience and accessibility of triggering your evening functions (lights off, thermostat set, alarm activated) just by tapping a nightstand,” the Knocki Foundation said.

“Knocki is also a uniquely accessible interface, empowering those with mobility and vision impairments to stay connected even if they can’t physically or visually locate a phone app or a physical button/switch,” according to the Knocki Foundation

“Knocki is slated to ship out by the end of the year, and we will also be releasing a public API allowing the developer community to extend Knocki’s functionality around their own needs,” the Knocki Foundation added.

Prices have not yet been determined for the Knocki device, but Knocki’s are available with certain packages on
