The Shins cover of Paul McCartney’s “Wonderful Christmastime” was deemed the most popular holiday song consumers wanted to hear most this time of year, knocking Christmas diva, Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas” down from number 1, according to ew.com.

The American indie rock band was founded and fronted by vocalist and multi instrumentalist, James Mercer in 1996. The Shins were formed in Albuquerque, New Mexico, but are now based in Portland, Oregon, according to theshins.com. “Known For Your Onion!” and “The Past and Pending” are two of their most popular songs.

“Well, we’ve always been super-popular on the Island of Misfit Toys so it was just a matter of time before the human world embraced our incredible Christmas spirit,” stated James Mercer, according to ew.com.

Mariah Carey wrote and produced “All I Want For Christmas” which was released in 1994. It was nominated for World Music Award for World’s Best Song and World Music Award for World’s Best Video.

According to billboard.com, other top Christmas songs are “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” by Brenda Lee, “Mary, Did You Know” by Pentatonix, “The Christmas Song (Merry Christmas to You)” by Nat King Cole, and “Jingle Bell Rock” by Bobby Helms.
