Do people back up in horror when you open your mouth? Do you always have to keep a breath mint handy? There are many reasons, other than what you had for lunch, that people have bad breath. Here are a few causes and cures according to Mother Nature Network (MNN).

1.) Raw onions and garlic go through you blood stream and into your lungs. This effects the way your breath smells, so if you want fresh breath, be cautious on how much you eat of these items.

2.) If you have poor oral hygiene, bad breath occurs. If you don’t brush and floss enough, tiny food particles stay in your teeth and rot, causing bad breath.

3.) The Mayo Clinic states “Dentures that aren’t cleaned regularly or don’t fit properly can harbor odor-causing bacteria and food particles.

4.) Cavities are one of the most common mouth issues that can cause bad breath. Cavities are caused by food being left behind, and this causes your bad breath.

5.) A dry mouth is another cause of bad breath. “Chew sugarless gum. Doing so 20 minutes after a meal can help with saliva flow. Gum that’s 100% xylitol-sweetened can help reduce cavities, but it’s also kind of cooling and gives you really nice fresh breath.” According to
