Author Profile: Alex Marestaing

I’ve always enjoyed coming up with new story ideas, so the brainstorming part of a novel is really fun,” stated Alex Marestaing,   language arts teacher at Fairmont Elementary School for 15 years and published author.

At the start of his career, Mr. Marestaing was hired by the Walt Disney Company to work on a freelance project related to Beauty and the Beast. Since then, he has written a two book series titled, Izzy’s Popstar Plan. At the moment, Mr. Marestaing is finishing a book geared towards high school students called, Fifteen Seconds of Normal.

Mr. Marestaing’s favorite book, that he authored, is titled I’m Nobody: The Lost Pages. “It’s about a seventh grader who starts getting mysterious notes from a dead poet, Emily Dickinson,” Mr. Marestaing explained, and he continued. “He’s not sure whether they are real or not, so with the help of his friend, Iris, he tries to figure it out. It’s my favorite because it’s suspenseful, and that made it fun to write.”

As a child, Mr. Marestaing’s father would read The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe to him. This experience made him grow fond of C.S Lewis and this series. “I like the way his books are creative and have a lot of layers of meaning,” stated Mr. Marestaing.

Outside of writing and teaching, Mr. Marestaing enjoys watching and playing soccer. “The U.S.A., Sweden, and Argentina are my favorite soccer teams. And, of course, I like the Los Angeles Galaxy as well,” Mr. Marestaing stated.

Mr. Marestaing’s favorite quote , “There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle,” by Albert Einstein, deeply touches Marestaing’s  life. “…Life is a wonderful miracle, and that we all matter and are here on earth for a reason.”
