Dogs Hang Ten During Surfing Competition at Huntington Beach

“This is our largest event yet,” said organizer Lisa Scolman, the manager of the Surfing Dog Competition, according to www.ocregister.com. “It’s exciting to see where dog surfing is going and to see it growing and growing,”which was held September 27 through 29th at Huntington Beach.

Approximately 2,500 people came to the Surfing Dog Competition in Huntington, raising about $6,000 for its nonprofit partners and having almost 65 dogs set off into the ocean to compete for the title of best surfer on four legs, reported www.ocregister.com.

On the three day event started on Friday, September 27 with a happy hour for the humans and a costume contest for the stars of the weekend. On Saturday, September 28, three special canines were inducted into the International Surf Dog Walk of Fame, according to www.latimes.com. Then on the final day, Sunday, September 29, the real reason for the weekend has arrived: the canine surfing competition!

After the competition ended, there was an award ceremony at the Shorebreak Hotel.

The dogs competed within classes of the same weight, with categories for small, medium, large and extra-large breeds, reported www.ocregister.com. There was also a shredder category for more advanced dogs, and an event for the dogs and their owners.

“This is such a high-energy, entertaining weekend for pets, pet parents and surf fans alike,” says Scolman, according to rt.com/usa/“There’s something for everyone throughout the weekend.”

Every canine that participates will receive a metal for taking part in this event, according to rt.com/usa/. But the winners received an even greater award: each winner in the different categories won $25 Gift Certificate for Petco.

“Dogs can really, really surf,” Scolman said, according to www.ocregister.com.
