Eric Alfaro Selected for Student of the Week for Instrumental Music

Eighth grade Eric Alfaro has been selected by Mrs. Crecia as student of the week for instrumental music on January 31st to February 4th.

“Eric has been an amazing student in our music program with various, positive qualities. He has shown great improvement in his skill level playing the baritone saxophone in our Jazz Band as well as our Performing Band,” said Mrs. Crecia in an interview with the Matador Messenger.

“I was surprised because there are a lot of students in our band,” stated Eric in an interview with the Matador Messenger. He says  that he “enjoys playing music, going to concerts, and making new friends,” in the band. He also appreciates how calm and patient Mrs. Crecia is with the class.

According to Mrs. Crecia, “Eric has been a phenomenal role model to others since he has been part of our band family, especially during his 8th-grade year. He continues to model professionalism by following through with his goals, a high work ethic through his practice, and dedication to our ensembles.”

Mrs. Crecia has also started “One project I assigned him was to learn to play baritone saxophone in the jazz band. He previously was only an alto saxophone player, but since then, he has excelled on the baritone saxophone. Eric goes above and beyond by learning extended techniques such as ‘growling’.”

Outside of playing music, Eric likes to play soccer, read, and practice guitar or saxophone.
