BYMSs Band Performs at Knotts Berry Farm

Bernardo Yorba Middle school’s performing band performed at the Knott’s Fiesta Plaza stage on December 9, 2021.

The pieces they played were “Born This Way” by Lady Gaga, “Silver Bells” by Michael Buble, “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” by Haven Gillespie and J. Fred Coots,

BYEU has done performances at amusement parks for a long time. Recently, our school’s band performed at Knott’s Berry Farm. Led by their amazing music director, Mrs.Crecia, and supported by the Color Guard, the band has truly outdone themselves.

The band’s best moment would probably be the bonding after the performance. The band members would include other band members to hang out with them and everyone had a fun time riding roller coasters, eating greasy theme park food, and just relaxing and spending time with others. Many of the band members also enjoyed riding “Hangtime” with their dedicated band instructor.

When asked about how he felt about the performance, Eric Alfaro, a Baritone Saxophone player, stated, “I felt good and I think we executed it well.” Hannah Brady, a flute player, stated, “I felt pretty good about my performance, I think the best song we performed was Santa Claus is Coming to Town. I was excited to hang out with my classmates at Knotts and go on all the fun rides.”

After the amazing performance, Mrs. Crecia did admit that to pull it off the planning was lots of work. Mrs. Crecia stated, “It was not very ‘hard’, but it was tedious for sure. Some things that I had to keep in mind were applying to have our band perform at Knott’s, knowing how many tickets to request, requesting a school bus for transportation, having parent volunteers for various tasks, and much more!”

Mrs. Crecia also stated that one example of how things got difficult was when she couldn’t find a recording of the marching band playing at Knotts previously when there wasn’t a pandemic. She concluded, “We could not have made this trip happen without the support and help from her, our school administration, our amazing parents, and the dedicated Booster Board”.

When asked how it feels that this was the first thing to become normal again, Mrs. Crecia stated, “Although we are still not ‘out of the woods,’ it is an amazing feeling to perform at different venues and plan for a variety of concerts for the future. With that being said, our orchestra and choir ensembles may get the chance to perform at Knott’s Berry Farm as well! If any students may be considering joining our music groups – we will welcome you with open arms! Until then, we hope to see you at our future performances in 2022!”
