BYMS ASB is hosting a school-wide pet supply drive from April 5th until May 7th in support of the Orange County Animal Shelter.
To participate in this event, students can donate bedding, food, pet enrichment tool, grooming and bathing supplies, enrichment toys, and treats by placing the donations in two labeled bins located by the library and office. All donated items must be in good condition.
Lauren Holdeman, ASB officer, stated, “Our main purpose for the drive is to get animals what they need so that they can be happier and healthier. We hope to get many toys and supplies that the pets can use to have fun but to also stay healthy.”
“Our inspiration for the project was that all of us really love animals and want them to be happy and we thought giving them more supplies and toys would really help the animals and the owners of the animal shelter,” added Holdeman.
Orange County Animal Care offers its services at Anaheim, Brea, Cypress, Fountain Valley, Fullerton, Villa Park, Huntington Beach, Tustin, Lake Forest, Orange, Placentia, Yorba Linda, San Juan Capistrano, Santa Ana (shelter services only), and other unincorporated areas. OC Animal Care provides temporary shelter and opportunities for the adoption of animals under their supervision, as well as medical care for all confiscated animals.
According to ocpetinfo.com, “OC Animal Care strives to be proactive in placing pets by offering monthly adoption events, working with hundreds of nonprofit rescue groups, and encouraging our community members to become volunteers and foster caretakers.”
Promoting the drive is key challenge for ASB as some drives in the past have been hindered by a lack of publicity. To overcome this, ASB drive committee members have hung posters schoolwide and created Flip grids to get the word out about the animal supplies drive. Teachers have also posted links in their Google Classrooms.
