Four individual students, two per grade level, were also honored as “Students of the Quarter”, seventh graders Jordan Flores and Giselle Espino and eighth graders Emma Thompson and Francis Kupa. BYMS teachers voted for these students

from a list of “Students of the Month.”

Standing at a podium facing the field and the entire student population, teachers read the names of recipients for each category who then stood and formed a circle around all other BYMS students and their teachers who were seated on the field. All present then applauded for each group.

Each student honored wore a “Ride the Wave” t shirt given to them by ASB. All other students were encouraged to wear BYMS spirit attire.

In between the calling of names, different teams of students by grade level participated in a three-legged race, and a potato sack race and both were won by the seventh grade teams. Seventh grader, Nidal Zatar was the winner of the limbo competition, and a  BYMS staff defeated a student team in a “ski run” game.

BYMS ASB and leadership students,Star Lu, Jordan Holmes, Maya De La Torre, Hailey Johnson, J.J Mikhail, and Zoe Zadah, hosted  this event.

Fatima Chishty, a seventh grader who earned a spot on the  “Bronze Honor Roll” said, “I enjoyed how they recognized students with good grades the first quarter.”

“ The value of the spirit rally is to celebrate everyone’s accomplishments and hard work in front of their peers and their parents,” said MR. Valburg in an interview with the Matador Messenger.

The next spirit rally this year will be held in the third quarter and the final one will be in the fourth quarter.
