The Cross Country team at Esperanza High School is looking for athletes who are positive and want to improve their running skills for the 2017-2018 school year. The coach is looking for 30-40 boys and girls on the team according to Ricardo Medellin in an interview with the Matador Messenger.

“Training can be difficult and sometimes kids can get injured, just like many other sports, but the up part is you are joining a great team because we are like a family, stated Ricardo Medellin, Cross Country Coach for Esperanza High School, in an interview with the Matador Messenger. You are also joining a team with a great tradition. We are one of the best teams on campus and we have won many, many titles.”

The team meets during 6th period and after school. This is like all other sports on campus. They also have occasional practices and meets on Saturdays.

Last year, the girls’ team won 2nd place in the California meet and the boys’ team won league champions. They always have many athletes earning medals at meets.

Some advise the coach would like to give is, “Give it a try, you have nothing to lose, and you may surprise yourself. If you show up everyday you will get better!” reported Medellin.
