BYMS’s Vocal Ensemble and Concert Choir Perform At SCVA Festival

BYMS’s Vocal Ensemble and Concert Choir attended the SVCA Festival held at TeWinkle Middle School in Costa Mesa on April 20, 2017 from 10 am to 12 pm.

The festival began with the Te Winkle choir started and sang: “American Folk Rhapsody no. 1” with a soloist Bryhonna Cassini, “Escuchar al Viento,” “La lluvia,” and “Fuego!”

Next Bernardo Yorba Vocal Ensemble performed: “Indian Prayer,” “Sing Dem Herrn,” and “Give me the Splendid Silent Sun.” Vocal Ensemble scored the highest ranking of Superior: 3.96.

After that, Bernardo Yorba Concert Choir performed: “Die Forelle(The Trout),” “Da Pacem Domine(Bring Us Peace),” and “This Shall Be For Music.” Concert Choir also scored a Superior of 3.91.

Following Bernardo was Matthew Gage Middle School which sang: “S’Vivon,” “Amor Vittorioso,” and “Bonse Aba.”

A group of 6th, 7th, and 8th grade boys from Jordan Middle School called the Clef Hangers sang: “Adoramus Te,” “This Old Hammer,” and “ Vois Sur Ton Chemin.”

To end off the festival, Jordan Middle School madrigals performed: “Bonse Aba” soloist of Madison Flores, Tango for Evora” soloists of Reese Coblentz, Aubrey Bird, and Samantha Salamoff, and “Steady My Trembulin’ Soul” with the soloists of Daniel Cosia, Tyler Griffin, Dylan Loomis, and Trey Sanchez.

“It was obvious that all the choirs had put a lot of work into their  efforts,” commented Mrs. Nason about all the choirs performances.

“Southern California Vocal Association (SCVA) is a 501(c)3 non-profit professional organization for choral music educators in the Southern California area. The organization was established in 1939 by several prominent Los Angeles area choral conductors to support choral conductors and advance vocal music in Southern California,” explained www.scvachoral.org/aboutus.php about what SCVA is.

The last middle school-type event for this year is the SCVA Middle School Honor Choir which takes place on Saturday, April 29, at Los Alamitos HS. In January, several hundred middle school students from all over Southern California auditioned for this event. 125 were chosen, including 6 from BYMS: Julie Hussain, Alex Robinson, Jackson Mugar, Bethany Barks, Trevor Sanders and Matthew Genadry.
