Advanced Art Day of the Dead Project

BYMS advanced art students are creating, “…a life size set of 4 figures of a Mariachi Band in a Day of the Dead painting design,” for the PYLUSD District art show being held on April 19th. In an interview with the Matador Messenger, Rebecca Bailey, the art teacher at BYMS, explained in detail about the assignment that her advanced art class is working on.

The inspiration for this art project was, “…the collaborative efforts of the middle school art teachers to develop a project that would be challenging and fun for all involved.” Bernardo Yorba students will be doing this collaborative assignment alongside five other middle school art classes.

“There have been many challenges putting this project together.  Bernardo Yorba students are the only ones who will bring 4 to the art show.  So just getting 4 ready is a challenge in itself.” Even though this sort of project has never been done before by the advanced art class, Bailey is positive that this won’t be much of a challenge for her class. “There is a lot of problem solving we have to do along the way since we have never done this before.  But I am confident we will get it done since the advanced class is full of terrific artists.”

Once this project is completed, Bailey states that you can see it on display at the district art show. The art show will be held from 6:00 PM till 8:00 PM at the PYLUSD Professional Development Academy (PDA). There you can see Bernardo Yorba students’ design ideas, as well as the other schools’.
