“Our band was fantastic at the 41st Annual Band Pageant. Our students really march well,” stated Mrs. Rita Watson, BYMS Band Director. “You can really see the effort came to fruition because they marched smoothly and their lines are excellent. The students played exceptionally well during our two massed band numbers. It’s an amazing sound when you put 1,400 talented musicians together!” added Mrs. Watson.

Six middle schools and four high schools, with a total of 1,400 students, performed in the 41st Annual PYLUSD Band Pageant at Bradford Stadium at Valencia High School on Wednesday, November 2nd 2016.

Bernardo was the first band to play and march, performing “Crosswinds March” by James Swearingen. After all the bands marched, they all met on the field and played “Star Spangled Banner” and “Sounds of Sousa.”

After all the bands played their marches and the two songs, the district’s high school drum line performed on the field. After that the high schools performed their field shows as the middle schools watched.

In a recent interview with the BYMS Assistant Principal, Mr. Marshall, was asked what he thought about Bernardo’s performance and what his highlight of the night was, he answered, “Awesome! They set a high standard for the other schools to try to follow. Other than our students doing a great job and having fun, I’ve always loved the drum line!”

“At the 41st Annual Band Pageant we, the Marching Matadors, did very well,” stated clarinet player, Carter Topel. “Most of us were in perfect alignment and step. Other than the few people that were out of step. In my opinion the back few rows could’ve been in better alignment, but overall we all put our best foot forward on count one.”

Drum major Nathan Le stated, “Our marching band has been really practicing to even perform better than earlier in the season at the Tustin Tiller Days Parade.” He added, “I want to personally thank Mrs. Watson, Mr. Estep, and the parent volunteers for making us look so good.”

Bernardo Yorba’s next stop is Disneyland on Friday, November 18th.
