AVID Students Tour to Chapman University

BYMS AVID students toured Chapman University in Orange,California on  Wednesday January 20.

On the tour, the 50  AVID students, both 7th and 8th grades, were accompanied by the 8th grade AVID teacher, Mrs. Swarm and 7th grade AVID teacher, Mrs. Cyrus, as well as the two AVID tutors Oscar Preciado and Christian Issac.

Mrs. Swarm most enjoyed seeing the theatre and the performing center at Chapman University.

“Hearing about their acting programs was exciting, thinking about my Drama students here at Bernardo who might some day be part of a college program,” stated Mrs. Swarm

“Students interested in athletics enjoyed viewing the facilities as well. The campus in beautiful, and it was a nice day to walk outdoors,” stated Mrs.Swarm, AVID, drama, and 7th grade language arts teacher.

When Makeila Lopez, 8th grade AVID student was asked about what she enjoyed most about  the AVID field trip to Chapman University, she responded, “Spending time with my AVID family.”

AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination  and is an elective for students who want to prepare for high school and have a goal of attending a four year university.
