, and Color Guard and Band were awarded the Sweepstakes trophy  for their performance at the Loara Band Review on Friday, October 31.

“These students worked so hard during the two to three weeks before this event.  They really had set their goal of winning the Sweepstakes Awards,”stated Mrs Rita Watson, BYMS Band Director.

The competition was very tough.  There were 6 other bands in our division.  I could not be more proud of these outstanding musicians,” added Watson.

The band score was 88.55. Sweepstakes is the highest award bands can earn, even above 1st place. Bernardo’s  closest competition was from Tetzlaff Middle School, which was outscored by Bernardo by .3 points.

This season, The Marching Matadors have earned  sweepstakes or first place in all of their marches, competing against not only other middle schools but also high schools, as well.
