“After being a roving teacher for the past three years and simultaneously running two theatre arts programs for PYLUSD, I am ready to be in one place,” stated Ms. Amy DeFriese, new BYMS language arts teacher and test coordinator.

Ms.DeFriese chose to work at our school because after working at various schools and programs, she felt like it was time to stay in one place.

Ms.DeFriese is one of our new teachers here on campus, she also happens to be a former Matador. She has many interest such as acting, sing, and enjoys traveling.

In the past, DeFriese has taught  multiple subjects including musical theatre, speech and drama, music appreciation, three dimensional art, and language arts for 9th & 11th grade.

Additionally, Ms. DeFriese  has directed and produced theatre arts productions at Esperanza High School and Parkview School, including over 20 musicals, plays, variety shows, and school tours. She has collaborated with high school digital media  and ceramics classes, and dance companies,

DeFriese  earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in musical theatre from CSUF and Masters of Education degree in Educational Technology (Med) .

When Ms. DeFriese isn’t teaching she is usually working out, traveling, going to an annual “Teachers Broadway Workshop in New York”, and “being the best auntie ever” to her one niece and two nephews.

Some former teachers  who have inspired Ms. DeFriese in her teaching career include   former BYMS choir director and  hand-bell teacher, Carol Reynolds. “She assigned me many opportunities for  growth,” stated DeFriesse.  Also, DeFriese’s seventh  grade language teacher, Mr. Don Gebler,  helped DeFriesse to “refocus” her  educational priorities.

“I am enjoying my students, especially their enthusiasm for learning. We utilize our classroom website daily. My motivation feeds off of my student’s passions and interests and I hope that in turn my energy motivates them as well.”  remarked Ms. DeFriese, language arts teacher and test coordinator.
