“The Rise of the Resistance”, the much-anticipated Disney thrill ride attraction that made its debut at Walt Disney’s Hollywood Studios on December 5, 2019, complete with outstanding reviews and high tech special effects, reached its capacity within minutes as it opened at Disneyland on January 17, according to the Los Angeles Times.
The storyline of “The Rise of the Resistance” revolves around guests being captured aboard an enemy ship and attempting to escape. According to Season 1, Episode 6 of the Imagineering Story, a Disney+ Original “Rise of the Resistance” earned the distinction for the most complicated Disney attraction the Imagineers had ever created.” The ride features a combination of a walkthrough attraction and a typical ride. It features a combination of five cutting edge ride technologies: a trackless ride system, audio-animatronics, practical sets, projection mapping, drop elements and screen-based media.
The resistance base is the setting for the “walk through” before guests board the ride and experience dimensional sets for 18 different “scenes” for this motion-based experience, similar to “Star Tours.” Lazers, cast members dressed as members of the “First Order”, and a mounted vehicle taking passengers on a free-fall drop tower, all contribute to the much-anticipated fan experience.
The advanced technology utilized in the ride owes much to the trackless ride system that the Imagineers pioneered with the “Mystic Manor” at the Hong Kong Disneyland Resort. It uses a system of WiFi points to navigate the Star Destroyer. The trackless ride vehicle also has to work with the multitude of other systems, including the motion base on a drop tower, like “Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout,” according to Scott Towbridge from The Imagineering Story “That is a crazy idea but it was the best way to bring Star Wars alive.”
” ‘ Rise of the Resistance’ is the second of two attractions to open at Disneyland’s $1-billion Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge expansion,” reported the Los Angeles Times.
