How about a side of Virtual Reality with your Chick-Fil-A Chicken sandwich? Chick-Fil-A is offering 200,000 cardboard devices as promotional giveaways with meal purchase.
In a recent interview with the Matador Messenger, Kelly Lassing, spokesperson for Chick-fil-a, stated, “Those with a VR headset can virtually skydive, wingsuit skydive, race cars, swim and more with the Chick-fil-A cows. Those without a VR headset can watch 360 videos.”
After downloading the VR app on a smartphone, phones can be placed into the CowzVR cardboard box, and costomers can play games and watch videos.
Unlike the free Chick-Fil-A VR, the Oculus Rift costs $599; the Google Cardboard, similar to the Chick-Fil-A VR, costs $15.
Supplies are limited at each local restaurant so the VR headsets are “first-come-first-served.” According to Kelly Lassing, customers should check with their local restaurant availability. In our visit to Chick-Fil-A in Brea, needed to specifically request for the VR after the purchase of the meal.
When asked what was inspired of the creation of this project, Lassing replied, “Chick-Fil-A wanted to provide a fun experience for our customers to interact with the Chick-Fil-A Cows, and for the Cows to step up their game with the latest tech innovation – virtual reality.”
In the testing of the Chick-Fil-A VR, we watched 360 degree videos of Mount Everest and downloaded and played games such as bowling from the Google Cardboard app. This give away offers a much more sophisticated experience compared to the usual plastic toys and stickers.
