Donald Trump announced that he is considering boycotting Starbucks shortly after the coffee shops declared that they are abandoning their Christmas-themed cups, according to CNN.

“I have one of the most successful Starbucks, in Trump Tower. Maybe we should boycott Starbucks? I don’t know. Seriously, I don’t care. That’s the end of that lease, but who cares?” Trump told a crowd in Springfield, Illinois, on Monday, reported CNN.

“If I become president, we’re all going to be saying Merry Christmas again, that I can tell you. That I can tell you.”  Trump also suggested that he would ban Starbucks from his building, added to source. “I guarantee if I become president, we’re going to be saying ‘Merry Christmas’ at every store,” he had said, according to washingtontimes.com.

In the past, Starbuck’s Christmas cups had reindeers and ornaments, but changed to a plain green and red cup. The Starbucks spokeswoman, Sanja Gould, responded by stating that they will make up for the cancelled decorations with new coffee blends that they will be released to about 23,000 stores in 70 countries, added  ABC Eyewitness News.

“The iconic Christmas cup has featured several winter-themed designs since it first appeared in 1997. From minimalist snowflakes and hand-drawn reindeer to a winking snowman and decorative ornaments, each year the design is distinctive and different from the last,” as stated on cnbc.com.

Even with all the controversy, Starbucks can still benefit from the attention. “All publicity is not always good publicity but in this case — even with these threatened boycotts — this is a pure PR coup for Starbucks. It’s lightning in a bottle,” added CNBC reporter Mark Macias.
