All PYLUSD students grades 7 – 12 are invited to participate in an art and literature contest titled “Exposed Fresh Perspectives,” sponsored by the Yorba Linda Public Library. Students will need to do the art at their home, then submit it before 9:00 pm on Thursday, November 9, 2017.
The Yorba Linda Public Library and the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum have been hosting this contest once a year since 2007 according to Brianna Blan, the teen librarian. The purpose of this contest was to encourage students to express themselves through art and literature. No supplies will be included by the public library.
Each year, the Yorba Linda Arts Alliance judges all of the entries. When they come in, all of the art is separated by category (short story, poem, drawing/painting, color photography, black & white photography, and graphic design.) The judges then select 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and honorable mentions for each category. For categories, like staff picks or people’s choice, the entries will be voted on by either staff or by the public at the gala.
Not all the artwork will be displayed at the Nixon Presidential Museum. Only the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners will be displayed. The prize for the 1st place winner receives a $30.00 dollar gift card, the second place winner receives a $20.00 dollar gift card, and the 3rd place winner receives a $15.00 dollar gift card. After all the winners are chosen, another round begins, but this time the winner is chosen by the people. The winner chosen by the people receives a huge prize of a $50.00 dollar gift card.
A person and/or group may submit a maximum of 1 (one) entry in any art category (this includes photography) and one entry in any literature category (either Short Story or Poetry). Entries must be created between July 1 – November 9, 2017. Entries may not have been submitted in any previous contest. An official entry form must be submitted with your entry. Please include a typed, double-spaced explanation (no longer than 75 words) about how the piece fits into your interpretation of this year’s theme Fresh Perspectives, according to www.ylpl.org.
This is to help the judges understand your thoughts and purpose in creating the particular art piece. They will consider this in the evaluation and judging process. Judging will be conducted by the Yorba Linda Arts Alliance, and judges’ decisions will be final. The library reserves to right to reject any entry it deems inappropriate or which contains excessive profanity and explicit sexual or violent content, according to www.ylpl.org.
