Everyone knows him as the yellow sponge under the sea. From his classic jokes to his memorable theme song, Spongebob is a world known figure. Now I ask the question, how memorable is he really?

Broadway has just announced that they are putting on a Spongebob Squarepants musical. This will be the first of its kind.

Some people think it will be a great investment, but others disagree. “I think the idea of SpongeBob being a musical is kind of cool but is it practical? I mean, will people really go watch it?,” reported James Farrell, Editor and Chief, in an interview with The Matador Messenger.

The show will take place at the Palace Theatre. The first show this year in on November 6th at 8:00. See the full calendar here. The show is recommended for children ages 5 and up. Children 4 and younger are not allowed in the theatre.

SpongeBob SquarePants is co-conceived and directed by Tina Landau (Superior Donuts, Bells Are Ringing). It features a book by Kyle Jarrow and choreography by Tony Award winner Christopher Gattelli (Newsies). Orchestrations, arrangements, and music supervision are by Tom Kitt, according to playbill.com.

The cast includes Ethan Slater as SpongeBob SquarePants, Gavin Lee as Squidward, Lilli Cooper as Sandy Cheeks and Danny Skinner as Patrick, according to The Hollywood reporter.com.
