People falling off cliffs, car accidents, and street fights are just some of the latest incidents creating safety concerns regarding distracted Pokemon GO players.
Two men fell of a cliff in San Diego, while a teenager was shot in Florida while playing Pokemon Go. One woman in a cemetery near Philadelphia even became stuck in a tree because she was following a Pokemon. according to NBC7.com.
A statement sent to CBS from Niantic ,the company that made Pokemon Go, said “We encourage all people playing Pokemon Go to be aware of their surroundings and to play with friends when going to new and unfamiliar places. Please remember to be safe and alert at all times.”
Pokemon Go is an app that challenges people to travel to locate various sorts of Pokemon using Google Maps technology. For example, a participant in Yorba Linda might walk to Yorba Regional Park, spot a Pokemon on the map and try to catch it. You walk in real life and look for pokemon on a map, if one is nearby players can tap the Pokemon and attempt to catch by using their phone’s camera and by flicking Pokeballs at it.
In the U.S. alone there has been 15 million downloads and other countries are slowly becoming more supported. Announced by Niantic , the company that made the game, at E3, they started work on the game as an April fool’s project by Google in 2013.
