The Weekend, Justin Bieber, and Adele Spotlighted at 2016 Billboard Music Awards

The Weekend , Taylor Swift and Adele were some of the top winners at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards held at T-mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on May 22, 2016.

According to Billboard.com, The Weekend was a big winner taking home eight awards which included Top R&B artist and Hot 100 artist. The Weekend also won Top R&B album for the album Beauty Behind the Madness.

Beauty Behind the Madness was released through XO/Republic Records on Aug. 28 and is the third consecutive top 10 album for The Weekend, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye,” reported Billboard.com. “It follows 2012’s Trilogy (it debuted and peaked at No. 4) and 2013’s Kiss Land(a No. 2 debut/peak). The new album was led by three hit singles that have all reached the top five of the Billboard Hot 100 chart: ‘Earned It’ (initially from the Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack; the song peaked at No. 3), ‘Can’t Feel My Face’ (No. 1 for two weeks) and ‘The Hills’ (climbing to a new peak of No. 4 on the Sept. 12-dated chart).”

Justin Bieber won two of his ten nominations, Top Male Artist and Top Social Media Artist. Bieber was nominated for Top Artist, Top Male Artist, Top Hot 100 Artist, Top Song Sales Artist, Top Radio Songs Artist, Top Streaming Songs Artist, Top Social Media Artist, Top Billboard 200 Album, Top Streaming Song – “Sorry,” Top Streaming Song – “What Do You Mean?” according to people.com.

Adele also came out on top winning 5 awards which included Top Artist and Top Billboard 200 album. Unfortunately, Adele couldn’t make it to the awards but had a pre-recorded acceptance speech which played after they announced her name, reported Billboard.com.

Madonna also gave a surprise tribute to Prince singing “Nothing compares 2 U” and “Purple Rain” with a guest performance from Stevie Wonder. “Madonna saluted her friend and collaborator Prince with a two-song performance at the Billboard Music Awards. Paying tribute to the late legend…,” reported Billboard.com.
