Every second the movie plays, the viewer is looking at 12 intricate oil paintings.  Artists working on the project must go through extensive training before getting started. After the artist’s portfolio is approved, they must take a rigorous painting test, lasting three days. If the artist passes the test they will continue by training for three weeks where they learn the painting style and techniques of Van Gogh according to

The film tells the story of Van Gogh’s life, using paintings he created. The movie is based on letters Van Gogh wrote, reported

The project started out as just another company looking for funding on Kickstarter. They quickly exceeded their goal and were able to start the animation. Loving-Vincent-Join-the-Team.html
