Lady Gaga Performs at the 2016 Oscars
Famous singer Lady Gaga brought the Oscars to tears on Sunday when she performed her hit song, “Til It Happens To You,” according to CNN.com.
“Dressed in a white Brandon Maxwell jumpsuit, the 29-year-old first-time Oscar nominee gave an emotional performance of the song written for The Hunting Ground, a documentary about campus rape,” reported usmagazine.com.
Before Gaga performed, Vice President Joe Biden went on stage to introduce the popstar. Since he has been against domestic violence and sexual assault, he even made a book called “Violence Against Women Act,” according to people.com.
“Too many women and men on and off college campuses are still victims of sexual abuse. Let’s change the culture. We must and we can change the culture so that abused women or men like the ones you will see tonight will never have to ask themselves, ‘What did I do?’ They did nothing wrong.” Biden said to the crowd.
This song means a lot to Lady Gaga because she has been raped herself; in 2014 she revealed she was raped when she was 19, according to people.com.
“The singer teamed up with writing legend Diane Warren to pen the ballad, a heartbreaking interpretation of a sexual assault survivor’s experience,” usmagazine.com stated.
At the end of the song, Gaga and other people who joined her on stage, who were other people who also have experienced domestic abuse and sexual assault, all held their hands together for the song’s dramatic finale before receiving a standing ovation from the crowd, according to theverge.com.
